Memories of Monuments
Memories of Monuments is a first person adventure narrative game that grapples with the imaginative spaces we build around memories of trauma and loss. Inspired by the work of poet Elizabeth Bishop, the narrative gameplay reflects on the pivotal moments that define and shatter the notion of childhood through excerpts from the works of poets Elizabeth Bishop and Chase Twichell. As players navigate the space, they interact with a series of objects of intimacy and reflect on how we hold memories in materials and how they evolve. In this piece, I grapple with the question of how do these memories and moments evolve from their initial occurrence and how can we use digital space to join these fractal interpretations? Is there more truth in memory's abstraction and recursion? And how can we reclaim spaces that allow us to grow from and share these experiences?
